Zhier Fan is back for the Stanford Cardinal, clocking times of 52.2 and 1:54.9 in the 100/200 breast against Arizona State. Both of these times are within half a second of what he went at the 2023 Pac-12 Championships.
After the summer of 2023, Fan felt that he needed to focus on swimming to be where he wanted to be in the pool heading into both the college championship season and the 2024 Olympic Trials. Fan opted to take the fall quarter off from Stanford and train with his home club team in the Dallas metro area.
Stanford coaching staff must write a lot of thank you cards to club teams- doing the job for them. Does any other school have this many people, consistantly, taking so much time away from Stanford, improving, and then going back to Stanford and going back to flat swims… Men’s and Women’s roster.
Stanford recruits itself and they genuinely do everything well except for developing swimmers.
Avery is one of the best facilities in the country, Stanford a world class institution, but they do come up short with developing the abundance of blue chip talent they get in
Such a blanket statement is not true and shouldn’t even be said since we don’t know the whole story of the life of student-athlete. The workload at Stanford that the students have to carry and do well could have an impact on how they perform in the pool as well. Certainly, coaching would definitely a huge factor. But we do see some athletes improve both men and women. So you can’t just throw such a blanket statement since it is certainly not true.
What about the women this year? Everyone seems to be doing well and progressing throughout the year.,
