The 52nd Bahamas National Swimming Championships kicked off on Thursday with the 5-day affair representing an Olympic qualification opportunity.
The selection window ends on Sunday, June 23rd, which means Russia’s Yuliya Efimova, cleared to compete in Paris as a neutral athlete, is using this competition as a last-chance qualifying meet.
While the 32-year-old Olympic medalist’s main event of the 100m breaststroke doesn’t take place until Sunday, Efimova warmed up with both the 200m breast and 50m breast events.
In the 200m, Efimova stopped the clock at a time of 2:29.09 while in the 50m she punched a result of 31.47 in the prelims.
For her main event, she’ll be chasing the World Aquatics Olympic Qualification Time of 1:06.79, a threshold under which she’s been on countless occasions.
Efimova’s 100m breast lifetime best rests at the 1:04.36 she produced at the 2017 World Championships while her most recent time sits at the 1:06.02 she produced en route to 5th place at the 2020 Olympic Games.

Hold up. Why aren’t we seeing more American teams go to the Bahamas for high-level meets or even mid-level meets? It’s a short flight from the East Coast and has good accommodations.
