On the day that the Campeonato Brasileiro Infantil de Natação, or 13-14 Age National Championships, are set to begin in Vitroia, Brazil the top seed in the 13-year olds boys’ 100 fly has passed away.
According to Alex Pussieldi, Pedro Nicolas Silva died at 5:50 this morning after undergoing surgery last night. Silva was struck by a Ford Fiesta while crossing a street for a pre-meet training session. Silva’s coaches and chaperons claim that they crossed only when the walk signal was given, while the driver of the vehicle claims that he had the signal to proceed while the pedestrians did not.
Silva suffered two broken legs, a broken arm, and a broken jaw, and several other serious injuries as a result of the crash.
The CBDA released a statement this morning on the tragic passing of the swimmer from the Amazonas region, saying (translated) “The CBDA, on behalf of the entire aquatic community Brazilian sends to parents, relatives and Pedro’s coach Leandro Freire, the most sincere consideration.
There will be a minute of silence in tribute to the young swimmer during the finals of the Bekenn Mauritius Trophy, which runs until Saturday.
The club where he was crossing to train, Alvares Cabral, is on a very busy road that the team was trying to cross when Silva was hit.

The Coach name is Leandro Freire only.. the Peter put that.. was a “translation” of Pedro (the kid) to Peter.
The original news should be like this that part, “The CBDA, on behalf of the entire aquatic community Brazilian sends to parents, relatives and coach of Peter, Leandro Freire”.
Heartbreaking news, he will have an angel in heaven for sure!
