The YMCA, after a long bidding process, has decided that it will remain in Greensboro, North Carolina for the YMCA Short Course National Championships for the next 3 years.
For decades, the YMCA was a fixture in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida at the International Swimming Hall of Fame. That chain was broken when, in 2012, the YMCA moved to the then-brand-new facility in Greensboro due to structural problems with the ISHOF’s grandstand and a pending renovation.
The YMCA has decided that it will stay in Greensboro, however, according to meet organizers, through at least 2017. The Greensboro Aquatic Club has a 50 meter x 25 yard competition pool; a 25-yard, six-lane warmup pool; and a 25-yard, six lane diving well. The GAC, as it is commonly known, seats 1,850 off-deck and is expandable to 2,500.
The short course version of the YMCA National Championships, which are the more prestigious of the two versions hosted every year, are usually held in late March or early April.
