YMCA Coach Arrested, Charged With Indecent Liberties With a Child at Y Nationals

Patrick Jeanneret of the Countryside YMCA in Lebanon, Ohio was arrested on Saturday in Greensboro, North Carolina at the YMCA Short Course National Championships last weekend.

He was accused of taking “indecent liberties with a child” according to a local Ohio ABC affiliate.

Jeanneret was a part-time coach of the senior age group (14-18) and was attending the meet to coach them.

According to the North Carolina Criminal Code, taking indecent liberties with a child includes:

Willfully takes or attempts to take any immoral, improper, or indecent liberties with any child of either sex under the age of 16 years for the purpose of arousing or gratifying sexual desire; or

Willfully commits or attempts to commit any lewd or lascivious act upon or with the body or any part or member of the body of any child of either sex under the age of 16 years.

That charge implies that the alleged incident was with a swimmer under the age of 16. In North Carolina, this charge would be a Class F felony, and under state sentencing guidelines, that comes with a minimum recommendation of 13-16 months in prison (with more or less depending on any mitigating or aggravating factors, or any criminal history).

Because the incident involves a minor, very few details were released by authorities.

The Countryside YMCA finished 13th in the combined team scoring at the meet.
