French swimmer Yannick Agnel was listed on initial psych sheets for the 2016 World Cup stop in Chartres, France, as swimming the 50 backstroke and 50 breaststroke, but has been removed from both results and entry lists at the meet.
After a disappointing run since winning gold in the 200 free at both the 2012 Olympics and 2013 World Championships, Agnel hinted several times, and finally confirmed, that he is retiring after the 2016 Olympic Games.
That’s why his entries, posted earlier this week, raised some eyebrows of perhaps a change of heart, or maybe a final bow in front of a home crowd, but after all it was a feigned entry, perhaps made before his final decision on continuing to compete.
According to his Twitter account, Agnel is currently traveling the world – including stopping through Singapore and leaving a congratulations to 100 fly Olympic champion Joseph Schooling.

Is that Angel or Neil Patrick Harris?
Singapore looks pretty classy in that picture.
It’s real nice.
Singapore always look nice, but it’s a boring city, not to mention an expensive one.
Brilliant end of career.
Very sad to see.
But still thanks for what you’ve done for French swimming.
Perhaps an end of a brilliant career. The end of his career was not so brilliant
