Blackline Aquatics’ Sam Pekarek has verbally committed to Yale‘s class of 2021.
Excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and further my education at Yale University. Thank you everyone for the support!#GoBulldogs pic.twitter.com/WVyBDh49GQ

Pekarek is a strong breaststroker/IM’er who will greatly boost the Bulldogs’ lineup next season. As a junior for Eastview High School last season at the Minnesota AA Champs, Pekarek posted two runner-up finishes, touching 2nd in the 100 breast and 200 IM. He also torched a 25.25 split on Eastview’s 200 medley relay.
TOP TIMES
- 100 breast – 55.66
- 200 breast – 2:01.87
- 200 IM – 1:50.24
- 400 IM – 4:01.79
Pekarek would’ve snuck into the 100 breast B final at last season’s Ivy League Champs, while he’s in C final range in the 200 breast. He’s nearly at C final range in the 200 IM, as well, making him a potential three-event scorer in his first year with the Bulldogs.
Yale had no A-finalists in either breaststroke event at the Ivy League Champs last season, and only one B-finalist in each event. Pekarek will add depth to the breaststroke group as soon as he gets to campus, and adds potential salience in the IM’s as well.
*IVY LEAGUE DISCLAIMER: A “verbal commitment” by a coach is not an offer of admission, as only the Admissions Office has that authority. An Ivy League coach can only commit his or her support in the admissions process.
If you have a commitment to report, please send an email to [email protected].
Congrats to Sam – #MNSwimProud #EastviewSwim
Great pick up for Yale. Their team has a great chance in the next couple years to win Ivy’s.
Pondering your rationale here. Looking at swimmers 1-17 Harvard is clearly 2 cuts above and Penn and Princeton are clearly both a cut above. Almost 400 points back of Penn and almost 700 points back of Harvard and Princeton at last years Ivys isn’t a good sign for winning a league title.
Last year they were missing their top sprinter. He’s back !
Harvard clearly 2 cuts above? Pretty sure you could’ve argued similarly last year and they failed to come away with a win when it mattered. On paper means nothing…good pick up for yale, they will be battling hard for 3rd
Just curious – what is your prediction for 1st, 2nd, 3rd?
Yale, Princeton,Harvard
Are you Sam’s mom?
Sam who?
LOL Swimmom’s son, the person this article is about.
Don’t know him
That is a nice use of an Ivy League word!
I assume you’re referring to my use of the word ‘salience?’
I try!!
You should never assume! But what else could it be?
