From May 10-15, some of the world’s best water polo players will gather in Japan for the FINA Men’s Water Polo World League Intercontinental Tournament. The six-day event runs from Tuesday through Sunday, in Yokohama, a city near Tokyo.
For the six international teams (Australia, Brazil, China, Japan, Kazakhstan, USA), looking to finetune and practice strategy for the upcoming Olympic Games, much is at stake. The best four teams of the Intercontinental tournament will secure a berth to the Super Final, to be held in Huizhou (CHN) from June 21-26. The strongest will be joining the top three European teams, which final round is scheduled for May 10. Host China gets an automatic spot in the Super Final for organising the meet.
Three matches per day will be played at the Yokohama International Swimming Pool, with the gold medal game taking place on Sunday May 15 at 14:00 (local time). See schedule here
