While filming with Carmel Swim Club, SwimSwam got the chance to catch up with world champion and Texas alum, Drew Kibler. The former longhorn finished his 4 years at Texas, but instead of taking the optional ‘Covid 5th year”, decided to return to his home town of Carmel, Indiana and train with his club team.
Kibler describes why Carmel is the right fit for him as a professional, from the culture of CSC to his relationship with head coach Chris Plumb to his ties outside of the pool.
Certainly a HUGE step/risk on his part being @ Carmel, but his awareness of the pitfalls of his move + his limit-less commitment and positive energy are going to be awesome to see in 2023! The ultimate ‘poster guy’ for USA Swimming and Paris 2024.
There’s no risk. The risk is not following your heart.
Choosing a club team with no real track record of training post grads where he will likely have no true challengers in practice over a storied pro team that specializes in his events sounds like a definite risk to me sir.
Carmel is really investing in their USMS program…good to see anchoring it w/ someone like Kibler
He has more speed than Kieran. Could be the first American sub 1:44 since MP in 09.
I have that feeling with this mindset and focus for the next year and a half, which also might depend on how 2023 goes, drew is gonna win the 200 at OLY trials and get top 4 in the 100.
