At the Barcelona stop of the 2024 Mare Nostrum Tour, Thomas Ceccon got some solid racing in, including competing in the 50 breast (27.69 prelims) and placing 4th in the 100 free (48.84).
When asked about his Olympic lineup, the world record holder said he is planning (and has been training) to swim the 200 back in addition to the 100 back in Paris. His nomination in the 200 back will be dependent on the results for the event at the Sette Colli Trophy in Rome which serves as Italy’s last Olympic qualifying opportunity.
I don’t know. He never had the endurance, as shown by his attempts at the 200 free. He is geared towards the sprint races. If he had the endurance, he would be a fantastic 200 IMer. But he is not even no. 1 in his own country…
He can swim anything and doesn’t swim backstroke races very much.
He has the highest speed ceiling of anyone in the field, and his 200 free/200 IM shows he has the legs for it. He could win this event in Paris. His potential is unlimited.
Also, he has the longest torso I think I’ve ever seen on a swimmer. He’s literally built for the sport.

He could be dangerous. A medal in the 200 backstroke is not out of question. I still see Hubi and Murphy as frontrunners for the gold in the event
