Winter Juniors Qualifier Patrick Hackett Commits To Xavier University

Distance freestyler Patrick Hackett of the Academy Bullets Swim Club and Lincoln Way East High School has verbally committed to Xavier University for the 2016-2017 season.

Last season, Hackett competed at Illinois High School State Swimming and Diving Championships, finishing ninth in the 500 free. His real strength comes in the events too long for high school swimming, though. For example, in his sophomore year, Hackett swam at National Club Swimming Association Championships, posting a Junior Nationals-qualifying 9:22.92 in the 1000 free. Here are some of his fastest times:

  • 100 FR: 49.56
  • 200 FR: 1:44.75
  • 500 FR: 4:36.85
  • 1000 FR: 9:22.92
  • 1650 FR: 15:58.12
  • 200 FL: 1:56.68

Under the leadership of coach Brent MacDonald, the Xavier men’s team took the 2015 Big East Conference Championship last season, beating out second-place Georgetown by almost 150 points. Hackett will be a great addition to the team, bringing in crucial points in the distance events; at last year’s championships, Hackett would have taken fifth in the mile, seventh in the 500 free, and eighth in the 200 fly. He will prove especially important as Big East champion distance swimmer Nick Foster graduates this coming May. The Musketeers also just lost distance swimmer Kiernan McGeehan, who graduated last spring, so Hackett should have the opportunity to fill a hole on the team.
