Winter Juniors Qualifier James Bilbrey Commits to Army West Point

Murrieta Valley High School senior and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American James Bilbrey has verbally committed to the United States Military Academy for the 2017-18 season and beyond. Bilbrey is an eight-year veteran of MESA Aquatics under his dad, head coach James Bilbrey.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to continue my education and swimming career at West Point and become part of the Long Gray Line.  GO ARMY, BEAT NAVY!”

Bilbrey won the consolation final in the 100 fly and placed sixth in the 100 back at the 2016 CIF-Southern Section Division II Championships last May. He led off Murietta Valley’s fifth-place 200 medley relay and 16th-place 400 free relay, as well.

Most of Bilbrey’s best performances have come during senior year. At last December’s 2016 Speedo Winter Junior Championships – West, he placed 8th in the 200 fly and 14th in the 400 IM and notched personal-bests in the 100/200 back, 100 breast, and 200/400 IM. A week later he added new times in the 100/200 free and 200 breast at CA/NV Winter Sectionals.

His best SCY events are:

  • 400 IM – 3:55.53
  • 200 IM – 1:53.03
  • 200 fly – 1:48.83
  • 100 fly – 50.01
  • 200 breast – 2:06.09
  • 200 back – 1:50.54
