Wingate, N.C.—-The Wingate University women’s swimming team won 10 of the first 11 events on the way to a 169-86 victory over Gardner-Webb University Friday evening at the WU Natatorium. Bulldog junior Maddie Carson (Pineville, La.) won both backstroke events to lead the victorious hosts (complete results).
THOUGHTS FROM HEAD COACH KIRK SANOCKI
“I am very pleased with our competitive attitude and effort against a great team to start the spring semester. Our December preparation featured major changes from anything we’ve done in the last five years, so it was interesting to see how the ladies would respond. They responded in a big way, demonstrating to us that they’re up for the challenge to have a great second half of the season.”

Tomorrow at 11:00 am, the Gardner-Webb men’s swimming team hosts Wingate, in what will be Senior Day for the men. Both the men’s and women’s teams will be in action on Friday, January 17 at Auburn.
Congrats to both women’s teams. The Wingate mens team was 100% disrespectful and distugusting to the Gardner Webb girls. As the men timed they called the female swimmers fat, slow, and ugly. One swimmer that was timing in the middle lanes went on to say that he was timing in the “sh!t teams lane”. This is disgusting that a so called mens college team would carry themselves like this. Wingate should be super disappointed in the boys.
