Week 3 of the collegiate men’s water polo season kicked off on Wednesday with a single match as Pomona-Pitzer visited Cal Tech. Pomona-Pitzer’s Steven Csaposs put in six goals to lead his team to a 15-9 win, despite a four-goal effort by Dylan Eliott and a hat trick by Jacob Niskey for the home side.
Still ahead on Thursday are four affairs including two Top 10 matchups. #2 UC Santa Barbara, which is on a school record 9-0 run to open the year, is set to face Ottawa (Arizona) and #6 Pepperdine. The Waves also will play Ottawa while in Santa Barbara.
#5 USC and #9 Long Beach State will meet in Los Angeles to wrap up Thursday’s action.
The rest of the slate includes tournaments in Davis, California (UC Davis Aggie Round-Up); Colorado Springs, Colorado (Air Force Invitational); Lewisburg, Pennsylvania (Bucknell Invitational) and New London, Connecticut (Connecticut College Invitational).
The three-day UC Davis Aggie Round-Up begins on Friday and features #1 Stanford, #4 Pacific, #7 UC Davis, #8 Cal, #18 San Jose State, #19 Cal Baptist, RV Santa Clara and Whittier, and Austin College. The tournament includes 11 affairs between ranked teams or those receiving votes.
The Air Force Invitational is set for Saturday and Sunday and will see #9 Long Beach State, #20 Brown, Chapman and Lindenwood join RV Air Force.
The Bucknell Invitational kicks off at 9:15 a.m. ET on Saturday and brings #12 Harvard, #14 George Washington, #14 St. Francis Brooklyn and RV Fordham together with the #13 host Bison, Mercyhurst, LaSalle, Johns Hopkins, Washington & Jefferson and Salem.
The Connecticut College Invite includes Penn State Behrend, Cerritos College, MIT, Saddleback College and the host Camels. The event features seven matches on Saturday and four on Sunday.
The schedule over the next week (thru Wednesday, Sept. 25) includes 24 matches involving two ranked teams. The slate includes seven Top 10 affairs.
