It’s looking very possible that Germany will leave these Olympics without a single swimming medal. Crazy because they’ve had a pretty strong swimming tradition. Hopefully they will use this as fuel to turn around their program.
Gyurta dropped 0.7s in the 100breast, if he drops 1.1 (which would be natural based on the 100), he will be right on the WR. hmm… Could be a surprise record
Weltz has had a winner’s mindset the whole way. I predict a medal for him in the 200M BR.
This is the US’s weakest day in terms of medals, with only the women’s 4 x 200 free relay being a medal favorite. Would love to see something happen in the men’s 200 Breast, women’s 200 fly and men’s 100 free, but it might be a long shot.
A British 1-2 guys! This means so much to Jamieson, he has the heart of a champion and does everything additional that is possible just so he can be the best. Willis is a racer and it helps that these 2 guys are training partners and race each other every day. The crowd will bring them home the last 50!! Gyurta is class but it’s been a British day and will be a British evening!
He won’t win though. He’s not strong enough. He has the greatest technique in the field, but has the muscle mass/structure of a twelve year old. He will get silver again.
Seeing as Irie has gotten silver at the past two WCs, I’d say he’s done pretty well at breaking up the “American 1-2”. He is going for gold.
