Olympic champion Sarah Sjostrom put up a warning shot this weekend in Malmo at the Swedish Senior/Junior/Para Swimming Championships.
Racing outdoors, the highlight of her weekend was a 23.78 in the 50 free. She’s always raced well, especially in sprints, outdoors – her seemingly-untouchable 50 fly World Record was also done outside. That’s the world’s #1 time this year.
Sjostrom is both the World Record holder and the defending World Champion in the 50 free.
See videos of that swim, and others from her Malmo weekend, below. More videos from this weekend’s racing in Malmo are available here on YouTube, courtesy “sodertorn a-grupp.”
Sjostrom – 23.78 in 50 free
Sjostrom – 1:57.06 in 200 free
Sjostrom 56.45 in 100 fly
Sjostrom 28.52 in 50 back
Starter held them forever and she glided in
Wow! Sweden has outdoor pool for the 3 weeks of summer!
🌝
No wonder she enjoys it. Interstellar observation that her best times were outside.
She’s great period!
She’s really good at swimming
Wow, no breath for the first six strokes of the 100 fly… Boss.
Pretty interesting and then she does somewhat of a pattern for a cycle or two and then is heads up the rest of the race. I wonder if that’s just something she’s playing around with or what
I think this is a standard cycle for her. Two years ago at Mare Nostrum, her first 6 strokes were head down, the next 6 strokes she alternated head up/head down, and then for the rest of the race she breathed every stroke.
The start in the lane above Sjostrom is laugh out loud funny
They be going crazy out here trying to get that back leg kick
so cool to watch …..
Extremely impressive how close she was to Sjostrom at 15m with a start like that.
That 60 SR all the way
She’s going faster in LCM than I am in SCY right now…
She’s taller than you.
She’s the real-life Wonder Woman!
