Watch: Phelps Talks Technique on Kevin Hart and Snoop Dogg’s Olympic Highlights

Kevin Hart and Snoop Dogg hosted a show during primetime television on NBC where they dissected some of the most exciting events from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Hart is a comedian and actor, whose most notable roles are “Jumanji”, “Night School”, and “Central Intelligence”. He hosts a Youtube segment called “Cold as Balls” where he interviews professional athletes in an ice bath.

Snoop Dogg is a rapper and media personality. Some of his more popular songs include “Young, Wild & Free” and “Drop It Like It’s Hot”. He has been featured on songs with Katy Perry, Eminem, and Dr. Dre. Snoop Dogg is also the co-host of a TV show with Martha Stewart called Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party.

Michael Phelps was a guest on Hart and Snoop’s Olympic Highlights segment, where he discussed what he was doing as a retired athlete at the Olympics and he later looked at Kevin Hart’s butterfly.

At the beginning of the video, Hart seems excited to show off his butterfly form to Phelps. Phelps and Snoop Dogg both appear to be skeptical, but they continue with the interview. When Snoop asked Phelps what his role was, he explained that he was there as a commentator. He continued, admitting that it was an overwhelming experience considering it was his first Olympics out of the pool since 2000.

Phelps further explained that his obsession with efficiency allows him to break down some of the best strokes in the world. While on the topic of efficient strokes, Hart seizes the opportunity to show Phelps and Snoop a video of his butterfly. Although initially impressed, Phelps points out that the fins Hart is wearing give him an advantage.

If you didn’t have fins on, then your body wouldn’t be able to get that high out of the water which means you wouldn’t be able to ride on top of the water like you do. So, your stroke then wouldn’t be as clear on top of the water; you wouldn’t be able to get fully out and clear.

Hart ends the interview by challenging Phelps to a race with a caveat: Phelps will swim two laps of butterfly, while Hart completes a quarter of a lap. Unwavered by the fact that Phelps has swum against a shark, Hart asserted that he could beat him in a modified freestyle race as well.

NBC Sports shared the video on their Youtube page. The full interview can be viewed below:

Mike?!, Mike?!, Mike?! Not a lot of prep went into this interview from Kevin Hart… No one should call the GOAT Mike. But Hart’s butterfly did look damn good fins, or no fins.

I heard snoop brought out the iconic bong for Phelps.

I’ve actually been pretty impressed with Phelps throughout these games. He probably needs a little bit more time to polish his on-air personality, I do think he has a potential future as a color commentator.

He loosened up significantly as the week went on. Was very loose and candid in the NBC studio. Hopefully we get more.

I, for one, am utterly confused as to why SwimSwam doesn’t already have a biography page for Snoop Dogg.

you could tell Phelps gears were grinding and knew something was off with Kevin’s stroke.

It definitely seemed off – my initial guess was that it was sped up – but turns out Michael Phelps has a better eye for swimming than I do.

I’ll get ’em next time.
