Watch Michael Andrew Take Down Chad Le Clos In 100 Fly

2018 FINA WORLD CUP SERIES – KAZAN

America’s Michael Andrew is competing at the first stop of the 2018 World Cup series, making his mark in the Aquatics Palace pool in Kazan. Following his successful summer where he clinched 4 national titles and took gold in the men’s 50m free at the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships, the 19-year-old is continuing to make waves against big stars both near and far.

On night 1 in Kazan, Andrew powered his way to a silver medal in the men’s 50m free behind the home country’s Vlad Morozov. Morozov touched in 21.49, with Andrew claiming the only other sub-22 second time in 21.99.

Before that race, however, Andrew muscled his way to an impressive victory over South Africa’s Chad Le Clos in the men’s 100m fly. Splitting 23.92/28.04, Andrew clocked the only sub-52 second outing of the field in 51.96, a time within half a second of his personal best of 51.53 from Pan Pacs.

I don’t care if his technique is perfect or not. Michael Andrew is a SOLID guy with great integrity….I know without doubt he isn’t doping like MANY of his competitors who likely are…dressel included. And Phelps most certainly did. And he is out-performing many of them with 25-50% of the actual pool time. To say he is anything short of amazing is simply incorrect. And no one can outright dismiss USRPT any longer. He’s beating the best of the best in many races/various strokes, and not just the 50meter sprints. I’m not an expert in swimming….just a swim parent and casual spectator. But I gotta say…in 2020 I’ll be rooting for MA. I hope he and his dad make great… Read more »

Phelps certainly did? On what basis and evidence? Why is Dressel a suspect as well? Man you don’t know if MA is doping. It’s possible that every single athlete dopes, but we don’t assume that because they’re fast. So every time someone gets a world record we accuse them of doping now

It’s what all these elites swimmers do….they dope. Look into it and see if your research doesn’t lead you to the same conclusion.

Interesting MA does not stay too long underwater after the turn…

Well his recovery rate will be slower than before as he gets older. He’s for sure not tapered.

Michael Andrew is the real, and maybe the only American professional swimmer. In the true sense of the word.
Have other “professional” swimmers like Nathan Adrian ever raced World Cup?

Professional “engaging in a specified activity as a one’s main paid occupation, rather than as an amateur”.

So what you really meant by “true” was “my”.

I think he’s one of the few true professionals in the sense that likely a large percentage of his peers are using performance enhancers…and I strongly believe he’s just legit talented. I do not believe he’d ever do that. GO MA in 2020!

Would it be too much to ask to see the entire race?

MA has the best fly technique out of all the Americans, and incredible natural speed. I really hope this is one of the races he puts a laser focus on.

Some say his entry is too wide. Other than that I haven’t heard anyone complain about his fly.

Tom Shields? Sure he doesn’t have the best endurance but his technique is one of the best I’ve seen.

I would say that his stroke is not the best. Of course in a non insulting way because of what he is doing right now. Most of the world works on an Eb and Flow for the Olympics. And for america we really don’t put pressure on the off Olympic years and can get away with it because of our School system. Our Top end athletes can have school and other outside things to distract from the pressure of swimming. There is no real need to be the best of the best right now. You can see it at Pan Am’s or even the Pan Pacs. Nobody is really focused on whats been going on recently. I would even suggest… Read more »

Why might we assume it won’t improve? I’m just curious. Trying to understand.

Great race. The times will get much faster as the circuit goes on, it will be great to see how these two push each other.
