WATCH: Martha McCabe Makes Second Olympic Team

London 2012 Olympian Martha McCabe will be heading back to the Olympics to compete at her second Games this summer in Rio.

The 2011 World Championship bronze medallist finished second in the 200m breaststroke with a 2:25.13 to get under the FINA ‘A’ cut and solidify her spot on the Canadian Olympic roster.

McCabe wasn’t 100 per cent pleased with her time, however she’s happy to be on the roster after she missed out on the 100 earlier in the meet. McCabe finished seventh in the 100 final with a time of 1:10.25. Amazingly, McCabe started her 200 swim faster than that, sporting a 1:10.09 at the halfway-point.

Coming back strong, McCabe finished the race in a 1:15.04.

The time for McCabe is her best time this season, however she has been faster at this point in the year multiple times throughout her career.

The fastest McCabe has ever been in a textile suit is the 2:23.16 that she swam at the 2012 Olympic Games. There she finished fifth in one of her best international showings ever.

The 200m breaststroke has proven to be McCabe’s best event, and in order to make another Olympic final she’ll likely have to go close to her textile best time. Her current personal best sits at a 2:22.75 from the 2009 World Championships.
