The International Swimming League has published recordings of the first swimming draft, which occurred from June 29-30. Throughout the two day draft, the ISL’s 10 teams picked swimmers from a pool of athletes who were not retained by their original teams and from a strong group of ISL rookies. Most teams were represented by either their GM or their head coach throughout the process.
Day 1 of the draft was slightly less exciting than the second day, as teams focused on announcing their retained swimmers from previous seasons of the league. In addition, teams selected rookie swimmers to add to their rosters, going through the draft order.

Day 1 Draft Video
On day 2, things got slightly more intense with 60 seconds-ish for each team to make their picks and some complications along the way. The first “mis-pick” of the draft occurred in round 4 as the New York Breakers selected Maxime Grousset, who was later confirmed to not be participating in the ISL this season. However, nobody was notified of the mistake until the draft was completed, causing New York to lose their pick.
Later, there was another mis-pick in round 8, when Tokyo Frog King’s GM Dave Salo tried to take breaststroker Eveniga Chikunova, who had already been selected by Energy Standard. Salo was able to retain the pick and used it on freestyle sprinter Bowe Becker instead. However, Salo hit another wall when he selected Sarah Vassey in the 10th round, even though she was already on the New York Breakers roster. As a result of the incident, Salo lost the pick.
In round 11, Salo was heard criticizing the league’s organizers for the lost pick. He then proceeded to select Anastasia Gorbenko, another swimmer who had already been selected in the draft. Salo quickly switched to select Noe Ponti, who was later announced to be swimming for NC State University in the United States instead of the professional league ISL.
The Breakers also lost a pick when they attempted to draft Mehdy Metella, who was not registered for the league.

Can’t wait for the new season! Hopefully some new fans follow over after the Olympic bump.
Such a mess, especially starting at 1:25,00! Hurts to see
