On day 3 of the 2016 Euro Meet, Germany’s Marco Koch blasted the fastest 200m breaststroke in the world this season. After a sub-30-second opening 50, Koch turned at the 100m mark in 1:01.78 before ultimately touching the wall for a final time of 2:07.69.
That mark checks in as the 11th swiftest swim of all time and even surpasses the 2:07.76 time Koch registered at the 2015 FINA World Championships to claim the gold.
In Rio , its between Him , Cordes , Gyurta and Koseki .
Cordes… whaaaaaaa… who knows if he can be sub 2 09
Miller has been looking like the USA’s heir apparent in breaststroke.
Gyurta is in trouble…
He isn’t the most athletic looking guy but he can swim the 200 breastroke!
Bring this announcer to USA Swimming championship meets!!!!!!!!
Germany’s closest thing to a gold medal lock in Rio. He’ll win and do it in a 2:06.
I mean, thats a good swim and all, but the research would probably say he was gliding too long.
It did do appear that he had a long glide. Guess you can do that and get away with it proving you have a STRONG KICK. But he definitely was not gliding too long on that last lap.. Much faster hand speed in the reach phase!!
Beautiful race. Nice pace going out and great tempo increase on the last 50. Love the announcer too.
Koch’s start and turns are as good as it gets on Breaststroke. Germany will be hoping & praying he delivers as he is the only realistic gold medal contender for them.
I also see a chance for Biedermann.
Gold?
Agnel returning, 19 year old World Champion in James Guy, Sun Yang… Tough. A chance, but maybe not realistic.
Don’t forget Peter Bernek…
Or katie ledecky….. wait..
Or Dwyer – Dwyer will be very strong this year – we saw it already recently . he is shaping great speed and endurance in his training .
