As previously reported in the Florida-Auburn dual meet recap, the post-grads for each school competed in events although the results are unavailable. View the race in the 200 freestyle from the dual meet between Caeleb Dressel, Natalie Hinds, Zane Grothe, and Katie Ledecky below. None of the four are suited up.
In the video, Dressel can be seen in lane 4 leading the whole way. He touched the wall first in a time of 1:35.76 based on the scoreboard. Dressel’s best time in the event is a 1:33.42 which he swam in February 2017 at a last chance meet. His most recent time in the event is from March 2021 when he swam a 1:34.59 in prelims at the ISCA International Senior Meet.Â
Next to Dressel in lane 5 (above) was Ledecky. Ledecky swam to a sixth place finish in the heat touching the wall in a time of 1:42.53 based on the scoreboard. Ledecky’s best time in the event of 1:40.36 is from back in 2017 at the NCAA Championships (she was suited in that race). In that race, Ledecky tied with Mallory Comerford to win the NCAA title. Ledecky’s most recent time in the event is a 1:42.55 which she swam in November 2020 at the Cal vs Stanford women dual meet.Â
Grothe can also be seen next to Dressel in lane 3 (below). Grothe swam to a second-place finish in the heat with a time of 1:38.14 based on the scoreboard. Grothe’s best time is a 1:33.28 which he swam at 2017 Winter Nationals. That also is his most recent official time.
Natalie Hinds swam at the top of the screen in lane 7. The video cuts out at about 1:46.0 and she was around the flags around the 1:44.0 mark.
Florida has always been home to Dressel as he attended UF. After graduating from UF, he continued to train there under Gregg Troy and now Anthony Nesty as Troy has retired.Â
Ledecky and Hinds are new to Florida as both have switched training bases within the past year. Ledecky had trained at Stanford since she entered the school as a freshman, completed her degree this year, and competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Ledecky announced her move to Florida at the end of September. Ledecky also is a volunteer assistant coach at UF.Â
Hinds has announced her move to Florida in January 2022. Hinds attended UF through 2016, retired from the sport in 2016, but made a comeback in 2018. During that comeback, she trained at the University of Georgia all up until her switch was announced.Â
Zane Grothe has also recently announced a switch of training as he announced that he joined Auburn in October 2021. He attended Auburn in his collegiate days and now is a volunteer coach for the Tigers. Prior to Auburn, Grothe had been training at Indiana University in Bloomington.Â
In addition to the 200 freestyle, Ledecky and Grothe also competed in the 500 freestyle. Grothe tweeted about Ledecky’s win in the race.Â
Raced Katie Ledecky in a 500 today. Had the audacity to tell her good luck beforehand. I lost

People in attendance at the meet have reached out to SwimSwam saying that Dressel also competed in the 50 freestyle, and Hinds also competed in the 100 butterfly. The official results were not posted.
Dressel casually goes what 200 free oly bronze medalist PVK went at NCAAs nearly 20 years ago but in a brief… oh yeah, he def has a top tier 200 Fr lurkin
How long do you think the race would have to be for Ledecky to beat Dressel? I assume at some point her endurance beats him. Assume the race is long course to negate some of his advantage on the turns. I’d guess she beats him at anything over 1000m. He definitely wins a 400, and an 800 is close. Not sure which one I’m underestimating.
Dressel would beat her at any distance, case closed
dressel is too scared to even touch the 200. he isn’t touching the 400, 800 and 1500. ledecky and finke dog walk him
y’all worship and pray for dressel like he’s a god
Ledecky definitely wins at 800m long course IMO. I do think a ~600m race would be close though.
Nah not even a 800. Both fully tapered dressel is gonna go a 8:04 at least. katie is not likely to do that anymore. can dressel beat a 8:10, yes he can
Respectfully, I disagree. Dressel can definetly go sub 8. He is elite at anything.
Interesting data point: Dressel’s 400 time is 4:00.0 from February 2020, at just a regular training meet.
I’d tend to believe that if you suited them up and put them in a race on a comparable spot in their training (either both worked, or both fully tapered), Dressel probably wins an 800. But I think it might be close.
have you seen the video of sjostrom vs palinteiri in a 50? sjostrom beat him in that and sjostrom isn’t even as elite of a sprinter as KL is as a distance swimmer, plus men have more of an advantage in sprints than distance
it was really close, but I don’t think CD has the endurance to do an 800
50 meters of course
I mean, if he really wanted to, Dressel could probably go low 4:20’s, high 4 teens in the 500 without too much hassle. I don’t see him going low 4:10’s or high 4:0 something ever, but it wouldn’t hurt for him to race the 500 once in a while if he’s planning on adding the 200 free anytime in competition.
The picture above and caption right below it, make it seem as if Dressel is super psyched to have beaten Ledecky.
Personally I’d flip out if I ever beat Ledecky at anything
Why is ledecky racing against boys?
Why not?
Evidentially that’s the norm now…
These are college dual meets so the pro group races as an exhibition race. They cannot race thein the NCAA heats. I do not think Ledecky cares that she is standing on the blocks with Dressel etc. She is the pool with them every day druing training.
Couldn’t cut the video any sooner after showing the times?
1:42.5. Solid dual meet time for Ledecky.
She’s always swum fast in season. I’m interested to see what happens when she’s rested.
But unsuited here too
Anyone have any idea who joined Nesty’s training group from Troy’s apart from Dressel?
Where is Ryan Lochte is the question we are all asking
Lol that’s basically what I was wondering but I didn’t want to just single him out.
Probably still recovering from that knee injury
That dude has had a “knee injury” since like 2007 lol
probably at a gas station somewhere, peeing
🙄
He just did a CrossFit competition because “TYR made him” according to IG
SUCH A SPECTACULAR VIDEO
Except when the camera focuses on the hat and blurs the swimming!
