WATCH: Daniel Wiffen Takes Us Behind The Scenes of His 14:34 1500 Free In Stockholm

Daniel Wiffen had a breakout performance a few weeks ago at the Swim Open Stockholm, rocketing his way into fourth all-time in the men’s 1500 freestyle in a time of 14:34.91.

The Irishman also set new National Records in the 400 free (3:44.35) and 800 free (7:44.45) at the competition, establishing himself as a premier medal contender in all three events at the World Championships this summer in Fukuoka, Japan.

Wiffen, who trains out of Loughborough University in England, documented his experience in Stockholm in his latest vlog, which can be found on his YouTube channel, Wiffen Twins, which he shares with his twin brother Nathan.

The vlog features Wiffen alongside teammate Asterios Daldogiannis, with cameo appearances from fellow Loughborough swimmers Felix AuboeckCatie Deloof and Paige Madden, as he walks the viewers through a typical swim meet for a top pro.

The 21-year-old Wiffen shows us some behind-the-scenes footage of travel, meals, pre-meet training and him exploring Stockholm amidst his record-setting competition. He also provides an instructional segment on how to self-checkout at the grocery store, in case anyone needed to know.

There is also race video from all of his swims, including the 1500 free where he’s seen lapping some of his competitors.

After the race, Wiffen, with a sly smile, told the camera: “I had a pretty good 1500, I guess, from last night. It was alright. It was like the fourth-fastest time ever, so pretty happy.”

Wiffen has been producing YouTube content for nearly three years, having published his first vlog back in June 2020 amidst the pandemic. Check out his channel here.

You can also listen to him recap his performance in Stockholm and touch on what he needs to do to break Sun Yang‘s world record of 14:31.02 in the 1500 free on the SwimSwam Podcast here.
