Wabash College Hires Nick Holvey as New Assistant

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -Wabash College Director of Athletics Joe Haklin announced Friday that Nick Holvey has been hired as an assistant swimming coach.

Holvey joins the Little Giant staff after spending the last four years as a member of the John Carroll University swim team. During his career (2010-14), Holvey was a 15-time all-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree, a two-time NCAA Championships qualifier, and capped his career with five school- and two conference-record times.

“I am excited to join the Wabash family, and to be a part of a campus that is committed to the development of the whole person,” said Holvey. “I look forward to being able to give back to the sport that has given me so much and am ready to help Wabash swimming and diving grow.”
Nick HolveyHolvey graduated from JCU in 2014, earning a bachelor of science while majoring in Business Administration, Management, and Logistics. During his time in University Heights, Ohio, he won seven individual or relay conference championships, earned two OAC Swimmer-of-the-Week honors, and was selected as a team captain.

His time of 20.61 seconds in the 50 freestyle qualified him for the 2014 NCAA Championships, where he finished in 30th place (20.88). Holvey set a school record in the 100 butterfly at the championship meet with a clocking of 50.09 to finish 32nd overall. He also competed in the 100 freestyle.

Holvey made his first NCAA Championship appearance as a freshman in 2011 as a part of JCU’s 400 freestyle relay team and competed in four relay events at that meet.

“Nick is an excellent addition to our program,” said Wabash head swimming coach Brent Noble. “He is very passionate about all of the right things. He loves swimming, and he has a very evident desire to be a part of building a championship team at Wabash. He fits the mission of the college as well as the direction and philosophy of our program perfectly.”

A native of Akron, Ohio, Holvey also was treasurer of the JCU chapter of Autism Speaks in 2012 and 2013.

In his first year as the head of the Wabash swimming and diving program, Noble guided the Little Giants to a fourth-place finish at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship meet, and saw his swimmers set 10 new school records and post seven NCAA provisional qualifying times.
