VMI Women’s Water Polo Drops #25 Iona 15-14

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Red-shirt junior McKenna Imset scored seven times to lead the VMI women’s water polo to a 15-14 victory at #25 Iona College Sunday in the Keydets’ final Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) regular-season match of the 2021 campaign.

The Keydets avenged a 14-12 defeat by the Gaels on April 3 in Lexington. The last time VMI bested Iona was in the 2018 season.

Makenna Moore posted three goals and three assists, while Genevieve Petrassi also had a hat trick and added an assist, two steals and two drawn exclusions. Sydney Shettleroe had a goal, two assists and four drawn exclusions while Kiara Anguiano had a goal and an assist. Rachel Ahumada had two assists, three steals and six drawn exclusions and Maddie Berry had three assists. Katie Lloyd made 10 stops in net and added an assist.

VMI closes out the regular season 6-11 and 3-6 in the MAAC. The Keydets sit in second place in the conference’s ‘Red’ Division. The semifinals and finals are set for May 1-2 at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
