Jessica Beattie has elected to join her twin sister Jenna at Virginia Tech in the fall. The Beattie twins are seniors at Lafayette High School in Williamsburg, Virginia, and they also swim for Coast Guard Blue Dolphins. Jessica is a polyvalent talent, who excels in IM, back, breast, and fly.
At the recent Virginia Short Course Senior Championships, Beattie scored in the top 8 final of the women’s 400 IM. She also finaled in the 200 back, 100 breast, 100/200 fly, and 200 IM and notched personal-bests in the IM, back, and fly events.
Beattie has seen strong improvement since junior year. Last summer she improving her times significantly across the board, including a 6-second drop in the 400 IM and 2-second drop in the 200 IM. Over the last six months she has improved her short-course 400 IM by 2.5, 200 back by 2.5, 200 IM by 2, 100 fly by 3, and 200 fly by 6.
Beattie’s top short-course times include:
- 400 IM – 4:27.56
- 200 IM – 2:08.15
- 200 back – 2:05.99
- 200 fly – 2:08.76
- 100 fly – 57.75
- 200 breast – 2:26.33
