Virginia Commit Smilte Plytnykaite Hits Lithuanian Record In 50 Fly

2025 LITHUANIAN SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2025 Lithuanian Swimming Championships kicked off from Vilnius today and already we saw a national record bit the dust on the women’s side.

Racing in the final of the 50m butterfly, Smilte Plytnykaite fired off a lifetime best of 26.64 to take the gold.

The next-closest competitor was Patricija Kondraskaite who touched in 26.90 followed by Barbora Mileisyte who rounded out the podium in 27.54.

As for Plytnykaite, the 18-year-old’s effort overtook the previous Lithuanian standard of 26.71 Kondraskaite put on the books last summer. Plytnykait’s lifetime best entering this competition checked in at the 27.22 logged this time last year so the teen dipped under the 27-second barrier for her first time ever with tonight’s outing.

As quick as Plytnykaite was, her time fell shy of the World Aquatics ‘A’ standard of 26.23 needed to qualify for this summer’s World Championships.

Plytnykaite has committed to swim for the University of Virginia beginning in the fall of next year.
