The Virginia High School League has announced that the Virginia 2A Swimming and Diving Championships have been postponed due to inclement weather.
The meet was originally scheduled for Wednesday, February 17th, but have been pushed to Sunday, February 21st instead at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
Prelims and finals will be held in the same day, at 9:15 AM and 5:15 PM, respectively.
The 2A meet is the smallest classification in VHSL high school swimming, and last year George Mason High School swept the boys’ and girls’ team titles – the men in dominating fashion by a margin of 380-250 over the runners-up Maggie Walker.
No changes have been announced yet for the state championship meets scheduled for Thursday (3A diving, 4A diving, 5A diving), Friday (3A swimming, 5A swimming, 6A diving), or Saturday (4A swimming, 6A swimming).
According to The Weather Channel, Christianburg itself is expected to experience below-freezing temperatures in the early morning on Wednesday and Thursday, when 2A swimming teams were expected to be traveling. Thursday’s diving won’t begin until 3:45 PM, when temperatures are expected to warm well above freezing, and conditions are expected to improve through the weekend.
