Vigo County Aquatic Center Holds Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The brand new, $9.8 million Vigo County Aquatic Center, the home of Sycamore Women’s Swimming and Diving, held its ribbon cutting and grand opening on Tuesday.

“On behalf of Indiana State Athletics, I’m excited to see the completed project and happy our women’s swimming and diving program will have a great home and great community partners.” Interim Director of Athletics Angie Lansing said. “This state-of-the-art facility will give us an edge in competition and recruiting. The Sycamores are looking forward to hosting collegiate teams for dual meets and possibly conference championships in the very near future.”

The 50-meter by 25-yard Olympic sized poll features a diving well, therapy pool and seating for 350 people. The Sycamores will share the facility with all the Vigo County schools and host home dual meets there next season. The new facility is located in Voorhees Park in Terre Haute.

“It’s really exciting time with the completion of the pool and it’s a great thing for the swimming community in Terre Haute,” ISU head coach Matt Leach said. “This pool is going to be used morning, noon and night and bring in some great swimming with various high school meets, USA Swimming regional meets and our collegiate dual meets beginning in 2016-17 and hopefully a Missouri Valley Conference championship in the near future.

Indiana State will begin it’s first-ever season of women’s swimming and diving in 2016-17 and signed its first nine student-athletes in November.

“To be starting a brand new team with a brand new facility will only strengthen our team dynamic and recruiting efforts in the future,” Leach said. “We’re really looking forward to being in there next season.”
