Video: Zachary Mollory wins 200 Free at 2014 YMCA Nationals, 1:35.96

2014 YMCA Nationals – Men’s 200 Freestyle – Reported by SwimSwam

Sitting second coming out of prelims, Ocean County’s Zachary Molloy exploded for a big finals swim, going 1:35.66 to break the national record. The old mark was 1:35.96 set by Nicholas Caldwell back in 2011.

Future NC State sprinter Ryan Held showed some endurance, jumping up to second place for Springfield YMCA. Held went 1:36.85, dropping two-and-a-half seconds from his prelims time, which was itself a lifetime-best. That kind of swim coupled with his 19.58 in the 50 free last night means Held is becoming a more and more valuable relay pickup for the Wolfpack with every meet.

Top seed Ben Creekmore wound up third for Upper Mainline YMCA, going 1:37.35. Held’s future college teammate Colin Ellington was 1:37.75 for fourth representing Triangle Area Y.
