“Phelps would not have made the olympics in 2016 or 2012″… thats just not true. Phelps went 1:54.9 when he was 15. It was after the olympics, but still, if we’re playing around with timelines I think that’s fair. That time would have gotten him second place at this olympic trials (first place if you don’t include his older self) and 5th in the olympic final (4th if you dont include his older self).

So I’m not going to weigh in on the Michael Andrew situation, but I just wanted to show that yes, Phelps would in fact have made the olympic team as a 15 year old even in this “new era” of swimming, and actually, he would… Read more »

One other thing, I hate when people compare MA to Phelps. If MA were a 200 flyer/im’er it would make sense. MA is geared more towards the 100’s. They do completely different events. All the speculation and comparison is a waste of time. What else does Micheal Andrew have to do to stop the hating on USRPT? It is clearly working for him. I thought after he broke the 400 Im nag it would stop. MA is only 15 and still has a ton of time to continue to Improve.

Micheal Phelps was 15 in 2000 which was a completely different era. Phelps would not have made the olympics if he were 15 in 2016 or 2012. The field… Read more »

Well said. If I had to guess which people in US could make top 8 at US Trials in 100 free, 100 back, 100 breast and 100 fly, only 3 or 4 people come to mind and MA is one of them.

Keeping it real, or whatever your name is, are you at all familiar with Michael Andrew’s well known ability to obtain NAGs on short rest?

Michael Andrew is pretty good at doing multiple events on the same night. He has broken multiple nags on the same night before.

Funny to hear Michael Andrew praise Andrew Seliskar for his underwaters and Mr Seliskar’s ability to swim multiple events back to back….. 2 guys that couldn’t train more differently… Michael Andrew with USRPT and 3-4k workouts…. And Andrew Seliskar who does 10k at EVERY afternoon workout with frequently 2 sometimes 3 main sets (1 of which is always a Free and/or IM endurance set). His coach makes it a point to do that b/c they don’t have much pool time during their 2 AM workouts and the coach wants to get in at least 60k a week. Maybe someone should tell Michael Andrew that endurance training is done not just to swim 1 race but also for the ability to… Read more »

How does one have 2 or 3 main sets? Doesn’t that just mean there are 2 or 3 big sets? How can there be multiple “main” sets?

I love Seliskar- he’s fantastic to watch, with many great things to come. But please don’t make a direct comparison to Michael Andrew, because it’s not fair- he’s only 15!!! If you want to compare anything, look at Seliskar’s 15 year old times. I think Michael is also more of a sprinter. He has done tremendously well in finals with very little rest. Imagine asking a great sprinter like Adrian to swim something like a 100 free 200 back combo with less than 30 min rest. I’ve seen MA have to race after only 13 minutes in a recent meet. Congrats to two fine swimmers, Seliskar and Andrew. Also, props to MA for always showing such great respect for his… Read more »

I don’t have time to do all of the conversions. Does anybody know if his swims were best times, when measured against his LCM and SCY times?
