FINA hosted its 4th World Aquatics Convention in Windsor, Canada with famed coach Bob Bowman – who coached Michael Phelps his entire career – among the big-name coaches speaking to the assembly.
FINA has now posted video on Facebook of Bowman’s address, which is titled “Coaching the best swimmer of all time.” In it, Bowman runs through a period of training with Phelps that he says led Phelps to becoming the best swimmer in history. Bowman says he feels the period he includes in the presentation is the best period of training of Phelps’ career. Interestingly enough, Phelps was 17 when he undertook the training cycle mentioned.
Update: FINA has now also posted the video on YouTube.
The video is embedded below, and you can also find it on the FINA Facebook page.

The FINA World Aquatics Convention took place over three days, from December 3-5. It was hosted in Windsor, Canada in advance of the 2016 Short Course World Championships, which begin tomorrow. The convention included a number of notable speakers including U.S. Olympic coach Dave Marsh, Olympic medalist Laszlo Cseh, Olympic icon Janet Evans, British Swimming coach Bill Furniss, FINA President Julio Maglione, Canadian head coach Ben Titley and the now-resigned Hungarian swim president Tamas Gyarfas, who resigned after a wave of criticism from almost all of Hungary’s top athletes this year.
Thanks for posting this Jared.
Been watching over and over – great educational tool for me as well as my swimmers.
Any suggestions as to how to see the slides more clearly or is there somewhere where the keynote/powerpoint presentation can be downloaded ?
Thanks for all your work with the SwimSwam crew.
