VHSL State 500 Freestyle Champion Jackson Nester Commits to Cleveland

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Jackson Nester, a current high school junior from Laurel Fork, Virginia, has committed to swim for Division I Cleveland State University. Nester will graduate from Carroll County High School in spring 2021 and join the Viking’s class of 2025.

Nester currently swims for the H2okie Aquatics in Christiansburg, Virginia. He is a VHSL Class 3 State Champion in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:30.11. He is also a Junior Nationals qualifier.

Nester will be joining his sister as a Division I athlete once he arrives in Cleveland. His sister is a pitcher for NC State’s softball team.

“I am very excited to announce my commitment to swim at Cleveland State University.  I want to thank my coaches, my teammates, and, especially, my parents for all their support over the years. Cleveland State is truly the best athletic and academic fit for me and I can’t wait to swim for Coach Burandt, Coach Colley, and Coach Ritz. Go Vikes!”

At the 2020 Horizon League Championships, Nester would have been a valuable asset to the team with his current best times as a high school junior. Most notably, he would have placed 8th in both the 500 freestyle (4:30.11) and 400 IM (4:02.98).

These times would have made him Cleveland’s 2nd fastest swimmer in these events at Horizon. In the 500, he would have been the 2nd fastest Viking behind junior Dominik Niedzialek (4:29.14) and 2nd behind junior Timmy Kubacki (3:50.53) in the 400 IM.

Best SCY Times:

  • 200 freestyle – 1:43.35
  • 500 freestyle – 4:30.11
  • 1,000 freestyle – 9:54.64
  • 1650 freestyle – 16:30.10
  • 100 backstroke – 51.76
  • 200 backstroke – 1:50.52
  • 400 IM – 4:02.98

At the Horizon League Championships, the Vikings placed 2nd as a team under Coach Hannah Burandt. Six team members were also given Academic All-League honors.
