With the 2019 European Short Course Championships just over a week away, the Hungarian Swimming Federation (MUSZ) has revealed its roster headed to Glasgow, Scotland on December 4th-8th.
In reviewing the names, several key players will be absent, including newly-minted 200m fly World Record holder Kristof Milak, Olympic icon Laszlo Cseh, medalist from Rio Tamas Kenderesi, as well as Liliana Szilagyi and David Verraszto.
As for Milak, the 19-year-old is currently in Japan competing at the inaugural Tokyo Open that kicked off yesterday. He has already racked up 3 gold medals.
For Kenderesi’s part, the fly maestro was handed a written reprimand, as well as a funding hit stemming from sexual harassment allegations, which came out immediately after this summer’s World Championships concluded in Gwangju, Korea.
Of the athletes who will be in Glasgow, however, medals will be at risk by the hands of Katinka Hosszu, Boglarka Kapas, Ajna Kesely, Szebasztian Szabo and more. Young guns, including Eszter Bekesi and Gabor Zombori, will look to make their mark on the meet, with the latter already having shaken things up by beating Milak’s World Junior Championships record in the 400m free this summer.
Hungary finished in 2nd place in the overall medal tables at the 2017 edition of the European Short Course Championships in Copenhagen. Hosszu led the way with a remarkable 6 individual gold medals, while Kapas snagged 400m free gold and Peter Bernek topped the men’s 400m IM podium.

Katinka RULES!
Now it’s official. Hosszu got demoted from Iron status to be referred just a veteran. Despite it’s a natural way to look at the athlete’s career it is a little bit said regardless “likes” or “dislikes”. It’s a gentle reminder to all of us that time flies and we can do nothing about this.
Are you sure you haven’t got Hosszu and Jakabos’s schedules mixed up or anything? Of course it might just be me but it’s seems a little strange to see Hosszu doing 4 events while Jakabos is doing 9 events (including some she isn’t really that great at)
The 50 and 100 free seem a stretch even for KH
But to be fair Hosszu on a good day could be competitive in most events and I don’t think there is great depth in the freestyles at the meet to come.
