World Championship finalist Sebastiaan Verschuren took the men’s 100 freestyle on the final day of the Hague Grand Prix. Verschuren was the only athlete to break the 50 second barrier posting a time of 49.84. He was well off his season’s best of 48.64, which he put up at the Amsterdam Swim Cup in December.

Surprisingly Marrit Steenbergen competed in the youth final of the women’s 200 backstroke winning the event in a time of 2:14.21. Steenbergen finished almost 17 seconds ahead of the field and beat the fastest time in the women’s open event by over seven seconds.

In the women’s 200 freestyle Robin Neumann out swam Steenbergen winning the event in a time of 2:00.12. Steenbergen finished second in a time of 2:00.45.

15 year old Tes Schouten, who won both the women’s 50 and 100 breaststroke earlier in the competition, finished second to Anouk Elzeman in the 200 breaststroke on Sunday. Elzeman took the event in a time of 2:35.38 followed by Schouten who touched in a time of 2:36.91.

Dutch lessons
If I’m correct,

Vrije slag = freestyle

Rugslag = backstroke

Schoolslag = breaststroke

Vlinderslag = butterfly

Wisselslag = medley

Bigfish, you’re right. 200 wisselslag in dutch.

I believe Steenbergen’s 2:14.21 is from 200 I.M., not backstroke.
