Sam Tarter from Gaithersburg, Maryland has verbally committed to the application process at Princeton University.* Tarter trains with Bruce Gemmell at Nation’s Capital Swim Club and is a senior and co-captain of the Georgetown Preparatory School swim team. Tarter has been part of a Georgetown Prep squad that has been Washington Metropolitan Interscholastic Championships (“Metros”) champions for two seasons (2014 and 2015) and IAC champions for three (2014, 2015 and 2016) during his high school career.
A versatile middle distance freestyler and IMer, Tarter was the 2016 Washington Metropolitan Prep School champion in the 200 IM (1:51.87) and runner-up in the 100 fly (51.11). He then went on to win both the 200 free (1:38.53) and 500 free (4:28.57) at Metros. In club swimming he finished in the top 8 at the 2016 NCSA Summer Swimming Championships in the 200m free and 200/400m IM. A USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and Potomac Valley Swimming Scholar-Athlete, Tarter has four winter national cuts. His best SCY times are:
- 100 free – 46.22
- 200 free – 1:38.53
- 500 free – 4:27.69
- 1000 free – 9:16.21
- 1650 free– 15:36.17
- 200IM – 1:51.87
- 400IM – 3:57.43
Tarter would have scored in the B finals of the 200/500/1000 free and the C finals of the 1650 free and 400 IM at 2016 Ivy League Men’s Championships. Assuming they are both admitted through Princeton’s early admission round, Tarter and Arthur Markley will be together in the Princeton University class of 2021.
*IVY LEAGUE DISCLAIMER: A “verbal commitment” by a coach is not an offer of admission, as only the Admissions Office has that authority. An Ivy League coach can only commit his or her support in the admissions process.
If you have a commitment to report, please send an email to [email protected].
Congratulations, Sam!!!!
Happy you made a commitment to Princeton. I know you will have a great swimming career at Princeton.
