SWIMMING AND DIVING NOTEBOOK
The Catamounts kick off the regular season Friday at 5:30 p.m. as they travel to Army West Point for a Tri-Meet with the Cadets and their America East rival Binghamton. For Vermont and Binghamton, it will be their first competitive meet of the season. Army swam at UNC Wilmington on September 17, falling 181.5-118.5.
FAMILIAR FACE ACROSS THE WAY
Former Catamount standout Kelly Lennon ’18 was recently named an Assistant Coach with the Army program. A three-time America East All-Conference honoree, she was named the America East nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year in 2018 and earned the UVM Athletic Department’s Jeff Stone Memorial Award during her senior season. In her role with the Black Knights, Lennon will primarily work with the distance freestyle swimmers.
EMPIRE STATE OF MIND
Since the 2014-15 campaign UVM is 6-1 in meets in the state of New York. UVM last competed in the Empire State on January 11, 2020 defeating Siena 191-100 in Loudonville. The Catamounts last visit to Army West Point was at the start of the 2015-16 campaign for an identical tri-meet. UVM defeated the Bearcats 229-67 and fell to Army 167-131 on October 10, 2016. Former Catamount and now Army Assistant Coach Kelly Lennon placed second in the 500 free as a sophomore at the event.
FRESH FACES ON THE POOL DECK
18 of the Catamounts 41 student-athletes this year are first years at the University of Vermont including five divers.
INDOOR ATTENDANCE POLICY AT ARMY
Those traveling to support the Catamount should be aware of Army’s indoor attendance policy. All spectators 12 years of age and older will need to provide proof of vaccination to enter the venue. Fans under the age of 12 are exempt from providing proof of vaccination. Additionally, unless actively eating or drinking all spectators are required to wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status. The following items serve as acceptable proof of vaccination status: vaccination card, NY State Excelsior Pass, and other states & federally approved apps.
BACK AT FORBUSH NATATORIUM ON OCTOBER 23
Following Friday’s meet the Catamounts will be back in action on Saturday, October 23 as they host New Hampshire at 1 p.m. Vermont’s lone home meet of the fall semester will be the Catamounts Spread Respect meet. America East’s Spread Respect initiative raises awareness to ensure equality and safety for all student-athletes, coaches and fans without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity.
