Van Vliet & Verlinden Qualify For European SC Cships At Fast Water meet

2019 SPEEDO FAST WATER MEET (NETHERLANDS)

The 2-day Speedo Fast Water Meet wrapped up tonight in Amsterdam, but not before two swimmers notched qualification times for this year’s Short Course European Championships.

Dutch Junior Records also bit the dust over the 2-day affair, courtesy of rising stars within the Netherlands ready to make their moves entering the final stretch of this Olympic quad.

First off, in terms of European Short Course Championships, the following swimmers clocked QTs here in Amsterdam:

  • Tamara van Vliet hit a winning 50 free mark of 24.28, dipping under the 24.42 QT.
  • Joeri Verlinden cracked a QT en route to winning the men’s 100m fly, touching in 50.61 (50.85 QT).

As far as junior records, the following swimmers made history at the Speedo Fast Water Meet:

  • Tim Korstanje, younger brother of NC State standout Nyls Korstanje, produced a Dutch Junior Record for 16-year-olds in the 100m IM. He touched in a time of 57.46, overtaking the previous Junior Record of 57.92 set by Daniel van der Deen back in 2011. Korstanje also took the men’s 50m free Junior Final in 22.81, as well as the 100m free Junior Final in 50.81.
  • The Hague’s Keanu Streefland notched a new Dutch Junior Record for 18-year-olds in the 50m back. His time of 25.82 here smashed the previous Age Record of 26.39 held by Luuk Veldman since 2015.
  • Finally, World Championships-bound Rosey Metz hit the fastest 50m breaststroke of the entire field, touching in 30.34 to produce a new Dutch Age Record for 18-year-olds.
