VA Record-Holder Thomas Hallock Pledges Commitment to Virginia Tech

There will be a familiar name on the Virginia Tech men’s swimming and diving roster for the 2017-18 season: Thomas Hallock, the younger brother of 2013 graduate, Michael Hallock.

Hallock hails from Vienna, Virginia where he attends Oakton High School. He was the runner-up in the 50 free (20.70) at the Virginia 6A State High School League Championships and anchored Oakton’s 4×50 free and 4×100 free 44.98 relays in 20.18 and 44.98, respectively. He was a member of Oakton’s record-setting 200 free relay and 400 free relay at the 2015 state meet.

Hallock also swims for Machine Aquatics. He won the 50m free at the 2016 NCSA Summer Swimming Championships and placed 15th in the 100m free, 16th in the 50 back, and was a member of all four of Machine’s winning relays. At the 2016 NCSA Spring Championships he was a finalist in the 50 free (14th) and 100 free (22nd).

Hallock’s best times are as follows:

  • 50 free: SCY 20.42 / LCM 23.50
  • 100 free: SCY 45.58 / LCM 52.42
  • 100 fly: SCY 51.70
  • 100 back: SCY 51.27

“I chose VT because, in addition to offering an excellent engineering program, I liked the swim team’s focus on a separate sprint program.  This was very important to me. Also having visited VT numerous times when  my older brother swam there allowed me to get to know the school, the coach and environment in general.  The fact that some of my friends swim there now, may have contributed a little bit to my decision and I that I will have a lot of fun there!”
