Virginia freshman Leah Smith has been named the ACC Swimmer of the Week for the first time in her career, and Florida State’s Pawel Sankovich has been named the Male ACC Swimmer of the Week for the 2nd time, the conference announced today.

They were joined by Mikey Lewark and Katrina Young as the Male and Female Divers of the Week, both of whom represent the Seminoles as well.

Smith led UVA in a sweep of Miami, Virginia Tech, and Wisconsin over the weekend: routing all three opponents, including their in-state rivals the Hokies.

In that two-day quad meet, Smith won all three of her individual events, topping the 1650 free (16:17.84), the 200 free (1:48.63), and the 500 free (4:48.70), in that order, and had little challenge in any of them. She also led off Virginia’s winning 800 free relay with a 1:48.93, and her leg made the difference in an otherwise very-even race with Wisconsin.

Sankovich, meanwhile, was honored for winning four races (including two relays) in the Seminoles’ win over Florida Atlantic. He split 21.77 leading off their medley relay, swam a 1:46.27 to win the 200 fly (not a primary event of his), was a 1:50.64 in the 200 IM, and finished with a 21.17 split on the 200 free relay at the end of the meet.

On the boards, Lewark won the 3-meter in a score of 410.43 – a lifetime best for him, and added a runner-up finish on the 1-meter. His female counterpart Young had the opposite results – winning the 1-meter and taking 2nd on the 3-meter.
