SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women’s swimming team will host Boise State and UCLA this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 15-16. Action on Friday is set to begin at 6 p.m.with everything resuming on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Utah women’s diving team will be competing in the UCLA Diving Invitational this Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 15-17, in Los Angeles, Calif.
UTAH NOTES
The women’s squad is coming off a huge win against OSU, where they came out on top with a score of 143-116. This was the squad’s first Pac-12 Conference meet of 2016.
There were nine first place finishes for the day. Genevieve Robertson won both the 100 (1:04.44) and 200 breast (2:17.68) and was also part of the winning 200 medley relay team that featured Shayla Archer, Jenna Marsh and Darby Wayner.
Marsh and Wayner also won individual events. Marsh captured the 100 fly (57.28) with Wayner taking first in the 50 free (24.34).
Adding to the win total for the Utes was Isabella Kearns in the 200 fly (2:05.30), Gillian St. John in the 100 free (2:05.30), Brianna Francis in the 200 IM (2:05.02) and Hailey Pabst in the 200 back (2:07.94).
In addition to those performances, six Utes earned multiple top-five finishes on the evening; Maudee Miner (100 and 500 free), Paolina Carnevale (1000 free and 200 fly), Maryssa McArthur (200 and 500 free), Jenna Griffith (100 and 200 back), Petra Soininen (100 and 200 fly) and Rhianna Williams (50 and 100 free).
LOOKING AT THE OPPONENTS
UCLA’s squad is currently ranked No. 18, while BSU is ranked No. 39, according to collegeswimming.com.
Utah went up against BSU in October, coming up on the losing end, 158-141. It has been two years since the Utes met the Bruins, losing in L.A., 157-134
MEET SCHEDULE
Friday’s events will not be scored while Saturday will be scored. The diving scores from the UCLA Invitational will be tallied into the final score.
