Oregon State hosted Utah for their last regular season meet and Utah’s 2nd-to-last. The Utes won 11 of 14 events en route to defeating the Beavers 143-93.

Oregon State’s Arianna Letrari won a tight battle against Utah’s Christina Pick, touching in 2:02.56 to Pick’s 2:02.94. Pick was ahead by .01 seconds at the 150, but Letrari split a 31.47 to Pick’s 31.96 on the final 50, giving Letrari enough for the win.

Dorien Butter went her fastest non-invite dual meet time in the 50 free, winning the event with a 23.52. Her previous fastest time in a dual this season was 23.75. Her overall season best is 22.94.

Sara McClendon negative split her way to a victory in the 500 free, taking the first half out in 2:30.56 and coming home in 2:30.13. Her overall time of 5:00.69 is her 4th fastest time in a dual meet this year.

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Utah women’s swimming team won its fourth-consecutive dual meet this afternoon with a 143-93 victory over Oregon State.

Darby Wayner collected a pair of wins for the Utes in the 100 and 200 breast events. The junior from Savannah, Georgia finished with a time of 1:04.90 in the 100 and 2:21.71 in the 200.

Gillian St. John started her afternoon by swimming the third leg of the triumphant 200 medley relay. Then, after finishing second in the 50 free to teammate Dorien Butter (23.52), she won the 200 IM (2:08.27).

That 200 medley team also consisted of Emma Broome, Genny Robertson and Jenna Marsh. Robertson was also fourth in the 200 free and Marsh was fourth in the 100 breast.

Sarah Lott impressed for Utah with a win in the 100 back (55.77) and a runner-up spot in the 200 back.

Ianire Casarin won the 100 free in 52.31 and finished third in the 100 breast. Meanwhile, Gabby Fagan captured the 200 free (1:54.02) and was fourth in the 100 free.

The two also combined with Jordan Anderson and Claire Jackson to win the 400 free relay (3:32.69). Anderson would get a second-place finish in the 200 free and Jackson also went fourth in the 50 free.

Other winners today included Sara McClendon, who captured the 500 free in 5:00.69 and was third in the 200 fly, and Mandy Gebhart, who was victorious in the 1000 free (10:33.73). Christina Pick also turned in a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 fly.

Senior Day is next weekend for the Utes when they host Washington State on Saturday at 11 a.m.

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State University swimming program took on Utah in the regular season finale at Osborn Aquatic Center on Saturday, honoring to two seniors and an alumni to wrap up the 2017-18 campaign.

Utah took the dual at 143-93.

Emma Osowski (Valencia, Calif.) and Noemie Midrez (Verviers, Liège, Belgium) were honored before the meet as the duo spent the last four years in the Orange and Black. Oregon State also honored alumni Marcia Brown, née Matthews, who was a diver for the Beavers from 1979-82.

“I thought we looked good,” said head coach Jennifer Buffin. “It’s always good to be back in our home pool and in front of our fans cheering us on. I think it elevated the level of competition to hear them cheering, especially at the end in the 400 free relay.”

Junior Arianna Letrari (Bolzano, Italy) posted the first event win of the day as she clocked a 2:02.56 in the 200 fly for the top spot, besting Utah by less than a half-second. Letrari added a top time of 57.12 in the 100 fly for her second event win of the day and anchored the final leg of the 400 free relay that took second in scoring at 3:34.96.

“Arianna had a great split in the 400 free relay,” added Buffin. “She showed her experience in racing and knowing exactly what she needs to do to get back into the race.”

Sophomore Felicia Anderson (Portland, Ore.) tallied a win in the 200 back at 2:03.26, a quarter-second faster that the second-place finisher, and was edged out in the 100 back as her time of 56:04 put her in second behind Sarah Lott from Utah at 55.77.

Freshman Fernanda Rodriguez (Portland, Ore.) narrowly missed out on the top spot on the podium in the 100 breast as her time of 1:06.86 was two seconds shy of the leader, putting her in second place.

Midrez added a second-place scoring finish in the 100 free at 54.80, while Osowski went 2-3 with freshman Riley Neal (Hillsboro, Ore.) in scoring in the 500 free. Osowski took third at 5:26.10, while Neal finished second at 5:11.96.

Oregon State will take the next few weeks off before returning to the pool in the Pac-12 Championships starting on February 21. Tickets are on sale and the link can be found on the Oregon State swimming schedule page on OSUBeavers.com.
