USA Women Announce Roster For FINA World League Super Final

Huntington Beach, CA – May 31 – USA Water Polo Women’s Senior National Team Head Coach Adam Krikorian has named the roster of 14 athletes that will compete at the upcoming FINA World League Super Final in China. Team USA will open competition on June 7th against Brazil in Shanghai. Other group play opponents include Canada and Spain. Team captain Maggie Steffens (Danville, CA/Stanford/NYAC) leads a group into action that has won gold at the last two and six of the last seven FINA World League Super Finals.

The roster includes the same 13 athletes that represented the United States at the FINA Women’s Intercontinental Tournament in Texas in February and the Olympic Qualification Tournament in the Netherlands in March. One addition to the roster from those events is defender Alys Williams (Huntington Beach, CA/UCLA/HBWPC). While Team USA will bring 14 athletes to Shanghai, only 13 will be permitted to play in each match with changes allowed before each match.

Team USA is currently in Kunshan, China competing in the Kunshan Cup, a warm-up event for the FINA World League Super Final. Through two days of competition the United States has defeated Brazil 18-3 and lost to Australia 5-4. They will play Canada, China and Shanghai (local club team) before concluding play on June 4.

When and if live streaming information is made available for this event it will be shared at USAWaterPolo.org and @USAWP on social media.

Notes: The FINA World League Super Final represents the final major international tournament before the Olympic Games start on August 9 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
