After last week publishing the time standards for the 2022 International Team Trials, USA Swimming this week has published the time standards for the 2022 Speedo Junior National Championships.
The meet will be held from August 1-5, 2022 at the William Wollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine, California.
The meet will offer Bonus swims for athletes already qualified for the meet. In past years, the bonus system has allowed athletes who qualify for one or more individual events to swim up to two Bonus events, if they have the time standards.
The qualifying period is June 1, 2021 through the entry deadline.
This meet will be the first single-site Junior National Championships for USA Swimming since summer of 2019. USA Swimming will host a split-site Winter Junior Championships from December 8-11 in Greensboro, North Carolina and Austin, Texas.
USA Swimming has kept the standards the same as the 2019 Junior National Championships almost across-the-board. The only exceptions in long course is the women’s 100 breast, where the meters standard has gotten a tenth faster (though the yards standard has remained the same). One short course yards standard got faster as well: the boys’ 100 yard backstroke qualifying time dropped from a 49.69 to a 49.39.
Most of the Bonus Standards will be faster in 2022, so that means fewer opportunities for swimmers with only one standard to swim extra events. That could result in fewer total entries than 2019, and could also deter some swimmers from coming to the meet for just a single swim.
2022 Junior Nationals Time Standards
2022 Junior Nationals – BONUS Time Standards
New to swimswam and this level of competition, what is the difference between the Phillips 66 Summer National Championship meet (also in Irvine, week earlier) and Speedo Junior Nationals? Which is the better meet to go to for a swimmer under 18 yrs old? Thanks!
Im pretty sure Phillips 66 is open while Speedo Juniors is under 18
Junior Nationals is for swimmers 18 & Under. Nationals is for anyone who can qualify. If you are under 18 with a Nationals cut and a good shot at getting a second swim at Nationals, go to Nationals. Or, do both meets.
Be glad if you have the problem of choosing my guy
What does this mean? “The meet will over Bonus swims for athletes already qualified for the meet. In past years, the bonus system has allowed athletes who qualify for one or more individual events to swim up to two Bonus events, if they have the time standards”
Offer, not over, that was a typo I think.
There are two sets of time standards, the normal ones and the bonus ones. My understanding is that that you have to meet at least one of the normal time standards in order to swim at the meet, and once you meet one of those time standards, you can then swim in up to two more events in which you meet the bonus time standards but not the normal time standard.
example: say some girl has a 22.6 50 free, a 54.5 100 fly, and a 55.5 100 back, and these are the only events that she has swum within the qualifying period. Her 50 free is under the… Read more »
I believe it should be “Offer”, not “Over”
A typo on swimswam. What is the world coming to?
I wasn’t being critical, but the sentence implied to me a shift in format from previous years, so I was trying to make sense of it.
Girls 50 Free always soft
.6 off trials cut is soft?
Yes, because the Trials cut was soft too. $horter events always are.
So many girls qualify in the 50 like it’s nothing.. always been soft
what?????????
