The United States will send a total of 49 swimmers, including open water, to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. That includes 24 men and 25 women, and of those 28 are first-time Olympians.
This will also be one of the biggest roster that the United States has ever sent to the Olympics since we became limited to two spots per event. It’s significantly larger than the 43 swimmers that the United States sent to Beijing, and that speaks to increased parity with fewer athletes dominating large-numbers of events like we’ve seen in the past.
We’ll do a lot more breaking down of this roster in the coming weeks, including looking at ages, professionalism, and experience, so stay tuned for much more

Did you even listen to that interview? Kukors was with him such a short time, Sergio talked about when you have a limited period of time, it is pretty much up to the swimmer to know what they need. You don’t make drastic changes in the time frame they were working with.
You make an allowance for Pelton not swimming well that day but not Kukors?
just watched sergio video on SW and talking about kukors and houchin…..i think thousands of coaches could get someone to go slower by 2.3 seconds the year before…..not very hard to do. don’t get the big deal…she is the world record holder, a world champion and even without a suit, she was 3rd in the world….i think she was damn lucky pelton wasn’t swimming very well last week. i do think sergio did a good job with houchin but not with kukors. i will be impressed with kukors if she goes 2:08 at olympics but that is the only way…..sorry.
What goes on after trails? Some coaches retiring, some swimmers retiring. What happens in a the post Olympic year?
According to FINA’s official website, Scott Robison is on the US team as a relay only swimmer for the 4×100.
http://www.fina.org/H2O/docs/events/london2012/sw/men_relayonly.pdf
Currently, USA Swimming’s site does not reflect this. Anybody have the inside scoop?
FINA “released” their entry before the US trials… but they can fix that at the next list.
underwater – we’ll ask around and see what we can find out. My feeling is that it’s very much a “just in case”. We’ve got 12 relay-only spots, might as well use them sort of thing.
Ok cool thanks. The only possibility that crossed my mind is since Ricky Berens is swimming the 200 free, he may not swim on the 4×100, which is on the same day as the 200 free prelims and semis. Perhaps Berens “scratched” his place in the 100 free and Robison moved up?
Berens cannot scratch his place in 100 free.
only those with individual spot can scratch
By my count there is still one relay spot open. It doesn’t really make sense to use it on Robison unless Berens is pulling out of the 400 FR. It would make sense to use it on Megan Romano, so that all 4 relays will have a full team of seven, with three to rest plus the best of the morning, which is how they usually do it.
I think these Trials just prove again that no coach/program have the answers to all swimmers:
1. PVK was a 2 time olympian and barely made the team this year. Great guy and works real hard but….
2. Kukors leaves FAST after going going under 2:10 a couple times including a bronze and worlds last summer and barely makes the team. In fact the only time she has gone under 2:10 without a suit was last summer.
3. Eddie’s kids were average for them and continued their so so NCAA performances. Great coach but not this year
4. Ziegler leaves FAsT and gets her act together and Hoff doesn’t!
5. Swim Mac was outstanding for… Read more »
That’s Cloe Sutton.
War Eagle!
Why is not phelps swimming 200 free?
