18-year old swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien has been named her country’s most valuable athlete in 2014 after becoming the first Vietnamese swimmer to medal at an Asian Games.
Vien earned a pair of bronzes at the meet in Incheon, South Korea when she took bronze in both the 400 IM and the 200 backstroke. She was also the Youth Olympic Games champion in the 200 IM, and ended the year holding 14 out of 17 individual long course recognized Viatnemese swimming records for winning – all but the three breaststroke distances.
Vien swims for the St. Augustine Swim team in Florida under joint direction of local coach Frank Holleman and her Vietnamese coach Dang Anh Tua
