Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Taylor Johannsen, a medley specialist from Colorado, will head to Florida in the fall of 2026 to swim for the University of Miami (FL). She currently attends Regis Jesuit High School and trains with the University of Denver Hilltoppers swim club.
“I am beyond thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Miami Florida! I could not have done this without my mom, grandparents, Coach Shawn and my friends. Thank you to Coach Andy, Coach Zach and Coach Emma for this amazing opportunity. I can’t wait to represent the U! Go canes!!! 💚🧡”
While representing Regis Jesuit High School, Johannsen was a finalist at the 2023 CHSAA Girls 5A State Championships (SCY) as a freshman. The 5A division includes larger Colorado high schools, typically with student enrollments greater than 1,600. Johannsen placed 4th in the 200 free (1:52.42) and 5th in the 500 free (5:02.51) at the championship. She also held the fastest 500 free time for Regis Jesuit that year.
More recently, Johannsen earned lifetime bests at the Speedo Winter Junior Championship – West (SCY) in December. She set new personal bests during the prelims in the 200 free (1:50.05), 500 free (4:54.54), and 400 IM (4:17.82). Her times in the 200 free and 500 free qualify her to compete at the 2025 Futures Championship in Justin.
Johannsen made it to the finals in the 400 IM at the championship, where she lowered her time even further, finishing with a 4:15.92 to place 7th and qualify for Futures. This marked nearly an eight-second drop from her previous best of 4:23.24, set before the championship.
At the Winter Junior West Time Trials, Johannsen swam the 200 IM and posted a lifetime best of 2:02.98. This time also qualifies her for Futures.
Top Yard Times
- 200 Free – 1:50.05
- 500 Free – 4:54.54
- 200 IM – 2:02.98
- 400 IM – 4:15.92
Miami placed 10th out of 15 teams at the 2025 ACC Championships, improving from their 11th-place finish out of 11 teams the previous year. Johannsen has the potential to make a significant impact on the team upon her arrival. Her 400 IM time would have ranked 1st last season, and her 200 IM would have ranked 2nd, just behind senior Emma Sundstrand’s time of 2:01.83.
Johannsen will join Peyton Leigh as part of Miami’s 2026 recruiting class. Leigh’s best LCM 200 IM time converts to 2:05.33, while her LCM 400 free time converts to 4:49.29 for the 500.
