Anna Vitolins has made a verbal commitment to swim for University at Buffalo, the largest in the State University of New York system. Vitolins swims for Schenectady-Saratoga Swim Club, where she has achieved the Winter Juniors standard in the 100 breast. Vitolins is also accomplished in IM, free, and fly. Representing Niskayuna High School at the New York Girls Public High School Association Championships last November, she was an “A” finalist in the 100 breast and a “B” finalist in the 200 IM. Vitolins also led off Niskayuna’s 200 free relay and anchored their 400 free relay.

Her best SCY performances over the past two years include:

  • 100 breast – 1:04.19
  • 200 breast – 2:23.93
  • 200 IM – 2:07.94
  • 400 IM – 4:34.83
  • 50 free – 24.75
  • 100 free – 52.86
  • 50 fly – 26.81
  • 100 fly – 58.61
  • 200 fly – 2:08.44

Buffalo finished fourth at the 2015 MAC Women’s Championships in a tight battle for the third rung on the ladder, 30 points behind Bowling Green and 34 ahead of Miami (OH). Vitolins would have been a big help with her 100 breast time, which would have been good enough for a second swim in the “B” final of an event in which the Bulls had zero finalists. Her 200 breast time is a bit more than 3 seconds off the cutoff for finals (MAC scores only “A” and “B” finals), but Buffalo did field two B-finalists there. Vitolins still has 2 and 5 seconds to drop in her 200 and 400 IMs to be an effective contributor at conference.

Great choice, definitely the go to program in the MAC. I think they will do very well this year and in years to come. You don’t wanna end up in one of those bottom programs like Ohio. yikes.
