Zionsville, Indiana’s Kylie Mihok has verbally committed to the University of North Carolina Tar Heels for the fall of 2016.
Mihok should help beef up UNC’s freestyle corps, and could turn out to be a relay piece down the road for the Heels.
Swimming for Zionsville Swim Club, Mihok specializes in the mid-sprint freestyling distances of 100 and 200 yards, but also swims down to a convincing 50.
Mihok’s Top Times
- 200 free: 1:48.88
- 100 free: 50.64
- 50 free: 23.74
Her improvement curve in that 200 has been very solid, dropping from a 1:56.12 in the winter of 2013 to a 1:50.99 in the winter of 2014, and finally to that 1:48.88 this past February. The same is true for her 100, which has gone from a 52.63 to a 51.89 to a 50.64 over the same time frame.
Her 200 would have scored at last year’s ACC Championships, and her 50 and 100 times are right on the cusp of scoring in the deep ACC.
Mihok has a personal connection to the UNC staff, as she lived and swam in Gainesville, Florida the same time current North Carolina coach Rich DeSelm did. She even swam with DeSelm’s daughter. That will give Mihok a level of familiarity with the Tar Heel staff right off the bat as she looks to help the team improve its second-place finish in the ACC last year.
First, Mihok will wrap up her senior year with Zionsville Swim Club and Zionsville Community High School in Indiana.

UNC sure did nab this girl. Don’t know why they would have any success recruiting this year after how they swam last year.
After they got second at ACCs by barely 50 points? Don’t know how you think this is an accurate thing to say. Great recruit for a great team!
What an ignorant statement. Perhaps she was attracted to UNC for more than just their swimming success (which to be honest over the last 15 years has been pretty darn good outside a few off years)? Whether it be academics, a beautiful campus, and maybe a connection with her future teammates.
Crazy how some people sit behind a computer screen and type before they think. These kids love the little bit of attention they get when an article pops up about them making their college decision.
