Norwegian teenager Tomoe Zenimoto fired off a new senior Norwegian national record tonight while competing in his home nation. On day 2 of the 2018 Norwegian Championships, Zenimoto produced a quick time of 1:55.10 in the SCM 200 backstroke event to not only claim gold, but also shave .06 off of the old national record of 1:55.16 that’s been on the books since 2015. His time also knocked .29 off of the teen’s own previous personal best of 1:55.39 from last year.
Zenimoto is just 17 years of age, but already has an impressive resume. A member of the Norwegian National Team, he holds senior national records in the 50m fly (23.96) and 100m fly (53.11) in long course meters, while also establishing himself as the fastest Norweigan ever in all 3 fly events across short course meters, as well as the 200 IM. The latter events’ national records were set last year while competing at the North Sea meet.
The Baerumsvoemmerne club swimmer represented Norway at the European Junior Championships in Netanya, Israel, where he placed fifth in the 50m fly (23.98), sixth in the 100m fly (53.52), and sixth in the 200m fly (1:59.11).
Zenimoto is committed to swim at UNC stateside with the 2018-19 season.
